Kindred Healthcare, Inc. is a healthcare services company that through its subsidiaries operates hospitals, nursing and rehabilitation centers, assisted living facilities and a contract rehabilitation services business across the United States. The Company operates in three divisions: the hospital division, which operates LTAC hospitals; the nursing center division, which operates nursing and rehabilitation centers and assisted living facilities, and the rehabilitation division, which provides rehabilitation services primarily in long-term care settings. At December 31, 2010, its hospital division operated 89 long-term acute care (LTAC) hospitals (6,887 licensed beds) in 24 states. Its nursing center division operated 226 nursing and rehabilitation centers and seven assisted living facilities (27,905 licensed beds) in 28 states. It also operates a contract rehabilitation services business that provides rehabilitative services in long-term care settings.
